Collection

As a museum of culture, art, and history, the Rosgarten Museum’s collection focuses on objects, works of art, and historic testimonials from Constance and the Lake Constance area.

It is based on the collection of museum founder Ludwig Leiner and other private collections brought together in 1870 when the Rosgarten Museum was established.

Over the centuries, the collection has constantly grown; meanwhile, it comprises approximately 200.000 objects, including archaeological findings from the Neolithic Age, medieval altarpieces and religious wood carvings, paintings by artists from Constance, everyday objects from the 19th and 20th century, as well as private letters and photographs from historical figures.

The collection is continually being expanded, including objects and artworks that relate to Constance’s history and culture.
